Virginia NightingaleDr Virginia Nightingale is Associate Professor in the School of Communication Arts and member of the Centre for Cultural Research at the University of Western Sydney. Her current research includes an ARC Discovery project with Associate Professor Anna Gibbs, investigating how the representation of human affect contributes to the power of media images, and a publishing collaboration with Dr Tim Dwyer, titled New Media Worlds. While best known for her writing on media and audiences, Virginia has also published on convergence and digital media in both Australian and International journals and anthologies, and completed a research collaboration with the former ABA (Children’s Views About Media Harm, 2000). She teaches audience research, media studies, and advertising media at UWS. Virginia is Chair of the Audience Section of the International Association of Media and Communication Research and an elected member of its International Council.
