Ian McGill

Ian's skills and experience are in the regulation of pay TV, telecommunications, television, radio, newsprint and interactive media.  He advises on joint ventures, alliances, acquisitions and divestments, access regimes and regulation of most sectors of the information economy.  His particular expertise is structural and content regulation of the converged media and telecommunications industries.

He has a long association with News Limited and has advised pay TV operator FOXTEL since its inception.  He also represented the commercial television station plaintiffs in Australian Capital Television v The Commonwealth: a landmark High Court case that established the implied constitutional guarantee of freedom of political speech.

Ian was Deputy Managing Partner and Managing Partner at Allen Allen & Hemsley from 1998 to 2001.
