Chris Law

Mr. Chris M. Law, MS has worked for over a decade in the field of Universal Design (UD), studying ways to make standard electronic devices such as public, consumer and office products accessible to people with disabilities.

The majority of Mr. Law's professional career he has been spent in North America.  For seven years (1995-2002), Mr. Law was at the Trace Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison.  While at Trace he was instrumental in the development of innovative UD "EZ Access" interface techniques to allow people with various types of disabilities to be able to access standard electronic products.  Mr. Law then worked for two years as a UD consultant at Maskery & Associates, a human factors consultancy firm in Ottawa, Canada.  In 2004, Mr. Law returned to academia, as part of the research faculty at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.  While there, he collaborated with researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta) as the senior researcher on the 'Universal Design in Practice' project (UDiP).  The UDiP project runs from 2004-2007, and is investigating the suitability of UD resources such as standards and guidelines for use in industry and government practice.  Mr. Law has taught at workshops, conference sessions, and directly to industry on a number of UD topics, including innovative approaches to user interface design, and new user testing methods.  In 2002, Mr. Law was invited to present as an expert at the lead session on the 'State of the Science on UD Symposium' in Minneapolis.

Mr. Law holds a BSc in Ergonomics from Loughborough University of Technology, England (1994), and an MS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA (1997).  Since May 2006 Mr. Law has been undertaking a Ph.D. study at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia.  He is investigating decision-making in business with regards to the development of environments, standard products and services for use by people with disabilities.
