Research Fellow, Centre for Media and Communications Law (CMCL), The University of Melbourne

Sophie Killen has a Bachelor of Arts (Media Studies) / Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology and is currently undertaking a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne. 

Sophie worked as a tutor and research assistant in media law, jurisprudence and alternative dispute resolution at three universities in Brisbane before moving to Melbourne in 2003 to work as an Associate in the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia.  Sophie joined the Centre for Media and Communications Law (CMCL) as a Research Fellow in June 2005 to research options for the control of cross-border tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship in a joint project of the CMCL and the VicHealth Centre for Tobacco Control.  This research focused on trans-frontier content control issues and informs the implementation of a treaty developed by the World Health Organization.

In August 2006 Sophie commenced work as a Policy Analyst/Researcher in the Sector Analysis & Reporting Branch at the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and was appointed as a member of the Advertising Standards Board.
