Marcelo Gross

Marcelo Grosso is an economist working for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) within the Regulatory Development Branch.  During his time with the ACCC he has worked on various issues across a number of regulated industries including the communications sector.  Prior to commencing at the ACCC he was as a graduate economist with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and was rotated across various sections of the organisation.  He worked on a range of communications-related issues ranging from spectrum pricing to the allocation of smartnumbers®.

Marcelo is currently pursuing doctoral studies on the software industry through Deakin University where he completed an honours degree in economics.  His thesis is a study into the structure, conduct and performance of the software industry, examining the features of software industry which are unique and similar to other industries.  During his time at Deakin University he worked as an economics tutor and research assistant. 

Marcelo has presented work relating to his doctoral thesis at conferences and seminars.  Some of the topics he presented have included the pricing of operating systems, the 1996 Microsoft antitrust case, network effects and externalities, and other industrial organisation issues related to software. 

His areas of interest in economics include technology and convergence, industrial organisation, regulatory economics, the software industry and various other related topics.
