Jean Burgess

Jean Burgess holds degrees in Music (performance) and English (communication and cultural studies) from the University of Queensland. She is currently based in the Creative Industries Faculty, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where she is undertaking a doctoral study on the politics of everyday creativity, cultural participation and digital culture entitled 'Vernacular Creativity and New Media'. 

As part of her research Jean has worked as a facilitator on several digital storytelling projects in cultural institutions and community contexts around Australia and in the UK, including work with the Kelvin Grove Urban Village Sharing Stories project, the Australian Museum, the Surestart program in Weston-Super-Mare (UK), and the Youth Internet Radio Network project.   She regularly lectures and publishes in the areas of digital storytelling, new media, popular music and DIY culture. 

She is currently the Reviews Editor of the International Journal of Cultural Studies, and with Melissa Gregg is the editor of a special issue of Continuum: Journal of Cultural and Media Studies entitled 'Counter-Heroics and Counter-Professionalism in Cultural Studies.
