Jeff Brand

Dr. Jeff Brand (Ph.D. Michigan State University) is Associate Professor of Communication and Media at Bond University where he lectures on communication technology and interactive media. He is Head of Communication and Media, Chair of the Human Research Ethics Committee and Director of the Centre for New Media Research and Education at Bond.

For two decades, Jeff's career has focused on researching the cognitive and behavioural effects of electronic media on young audiences including studies on stereotyping in the media and stereotypic attitudes of youth, effects of advertising on youth, and effects of news on youth knowledge about social and political reality. He now conducts most of his research on the intersection between computer games and society. He has published in The Journal of Communication, The Journal of Advertising Research, Educational Leadership, Asia Pacific Media Educator and in edited texts from Sage Publications in the communication field. He is a regular conference presenter at the International Communication Association, the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association and the Digital Games Research Association. He is a reviewer to six international and domestic communication journals and serves as a referee for international and domestic conferences.

As Director of the CNMRE, Jeff has conducted research for Telstra, the Australian Broadcasting Authority, the Office of Film and Literature Classification, the Special Broadcasting Service, Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia and the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
