Mark Balnaves

Mark Balnaves is Professor of New Media in the School of Communications and Contemporary Arts at Edith Cowan University.  His current research includes (i) Smart Communities, an Australian Research Council (ARC) project that investigates how information can be shared about children at risk without compromising privacy concerns; and (ii) Australian Responses to the Images and Discourses of Terrorism: establishing a metric of fear, an ARC project investigating how Australians and Islamic communities in particular are responding to media representations of terror and terrorism.

Mark is a co-author of the Penguin Atlas of Media and Information and writes on research methods, issues in new media and media audiences.
