Kerry Stokes’ leadership of the Seven Network caps more than two decades active involvement in the ownership and management of media companies in Australia. Mr Stokes is the recipient of one of the country’s highest honours, the Order of Australia, and is the immediate former Chairman of the National Gallery of Australia. Recently, Mr Stokes was also recognised as an Honorary Fellow of the Murdoch University and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Commerce from Edith Cowan University.

Building on its strength in broadcast television, Seven is developing a significant presence in new communications technologies, including digital television, in Australia. The company is deeply involved in the growing subscription television sector – with significant investments in a range of news and sports channels.

In broadcast television, Seven is Australia’s largest commercial television network, owning television stations in each capital city and reaching more than nine in ten Australians every week. This strength is built on a commitment to produce and deliver programming relevant to Australians.

Through his private company, Australian Capital Equity, Mr Stokes has broad business interests and investments in a range of major business sectors, including property, construction, mining, oil and gas exploration, and manufacturing.

Mr Stokes has a deep interest in art and has a significant collection in his own right. He was a director of the West Australian Gallery and Chairman of the West Australian Art Gallery Foundation from 1989 to 1991. Mr Stokes continues as a member of the Art Gallery Foundation. In 1993, Mr Stokes was appointed a member of the Council of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. Mr Stokes was Chairman of the National Gallery of Australia for five years, from 1996. In 1994, he was selected to present the ABC’s National Broadcast of the Boyer Lectures on "The Information Superhighway" and in 2001 presented the Andrew Olle Media Lecture.
