Ian Robertson

Partner, Holding Redlich

Ian Robertson heads the media and entertainment practice of national law firm, Holding Redlich and is the managing partner of the firm’s Sydney office.  He has worked in and for the news media for his entire career, including in the 1980s as the in-house counsel for David Syme & Co Limited the publisher of "The Age" newspaper in Melbourne, as a senior executive of the video, post-production and facilities company, AAV Australia and, since 1990, as a partner of Holding Redlich, initially in Melbourne and, for the past 15 years, in Sydney.

In addition to serving as an advisory board member of Network Insight, Ian has held a number of board positions in the media and entertainment industries.  He is currently the deputy chair of the peak Australian government screen industry body, Screen Australia, and is a director of the publicly-listed television production and distribution group, Beyond International Limited.   From 1997 until 2004 he was a board member of the Australian Broadcasting Authority and was one of the three panel members on the so-called “cash for comment” radio inquiry.
