Peter LeonardPartner, Gilbert & TobinPeter heads Gilbert & Tobin’s Electronic Business and Content Group. Peter has economics and law degrees, including a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney. He joined Gilbert & Tobin as the third partner in September 1989. Before that he was a partner with a national Australian law firm and also worked in London. Peter’s focus is on commercial and corporate transactions and structuring for corporations active in the technology, media, communications and e-business fields. He also has extensive experience in communications regulation in Australia and Southeast Asia. Peter is co-editor (with partner Angus Henderson) of Communications Law and Policy in Australia, the leading looseleaf service in this field, and general editor of Telemedia. His commercial and corporate experience includes e-business implementations, systems integration, outsourcing, development and hosting, applications service provider and portal and alliance arrangements in Australia and through the Asia Pacific region. He conducts business in North Asia through Hong Kong based Arculli & Associates in association with Gilbert & Tobin. Peter is listed in the top category in each of the major international and independent publications that rate technology lawyers, including Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers, the Asia Pacific Legal 500, Legal Profiles 2000-20001 (information Technology and Communications), Law Business Research’s International Who’s Who of Internet and e-Commerce Lawyers, Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Media and Entertainment Lawyers and The World’s Leading Telecommunications Lawyers, and LBR’s International Who’s Who of Telecoms Lawyers. Information Age magazine listed Peter as one of only three lawyers in the “50 most influential people in Australia’s information technology and communications industries”, cited for his ability “to offer clients practical advice and commercial solutions to legal problems”. Peter chairs the Regulation and Competition – Technology and e-Commerce Law Subcommittee of the International Bar Association – Section on Business Law. He is a director, representing the Asia Pacific region, of the international ASP Consortium. Peter was a member of the Australian Attorney-General’s Expert Group on Electronic Commerce, which issued the report which led to the Australian Electronic Transactions Act. He currently is a member of the New Zealand Law Society’s Electronic Commerce Committee. He serves on the Committee of International Legal Experts of INTELSAT, the Technology Law Committee of the International Bar Association, the Internet Law Committee of the Antitrust Division of the American Bar Association. Peter writes and lectures extensively in his areas of practice in Australia and internationally. Recent publications include articles in Computer and Telecommunications Law Review and International Internet Law Review and a chapter covering Australia in LBC’s e-commerce 2001. Gilbert & Tobin was voted by its peers Best IP Law Firm and Best IT/Telcoms Law Firm at the Australian Law Awards 2001. « Back |
