Gail Hambly

Group General Counsel & Company Secretary, Fairfax Media Limited

Gail is General Counsel and Company Secretary for the Fairfax Group.  She has held that position since 1993 and is responsible for the provision of legal and company secretarial services across the Group, as well as Risk Management and Internal Audit.  Her legal responsibilities include media regulation, intellectual property, defamation and other media issues as well as mergers and acquisitions and the provision of commercial legal services to the Fairfax Group.  As part of the key executive team she contributes to strategic development.

Gail is a member of the Media and Communications Committee and the Privacy Committee of the Law Council of Australia and a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Media and Communications Law.  She is also on the Board of theatre company, Company B Limited.

Gail also has a special interest in media law matters relating to privacy, freedom of speech and the public’s right to know.
