Dr Terry Cutler

Terry Cutler, BA(Hons), PhD, FAIM
Dr Terry Cutler is an industry consultant and strategy advisor in the information and communications technology sector. His consulting practice, Cutler & Company, has worked extensively on projects such as operator licensing, corporate strategy and commercial transactions, and government industry policy and regulation.
Dr Cutler has authored numerous influential reports and papers on the new Information Economy and electronic commerce. In 1995 he co-authored, with Roger Buckeridge, the seminal report on online services in Australia, The Online Economy: Maximising Australia's Opportunities from Networked Commerce. He is currently a regular columnist in Business Review Weekly on innovation.
Before establishing his consulting practice, Terry Cutler's career had been with Telecom Australia, now Telstra. During the 1980's he was part of Telstra's top management team, heading up major corporate restructuring around a customer focus. As Executive Director Corporate Strategy he oversighted Telstra's handling of major regulatory change and the introduction of competition.
Terry Cutler has served on numerous Government Boards and advisory bodies, taking a special interest in Government's role in the new global Information Economy. From 1996 to 1997 he was Chairman of Australia's Information Policy Advisory Council, and was Deputy Chairman of the Australian Information Economy Advisory Council from 1998 to 2001. As Chairman of the Industry Research and Development Board from 1996 to 1998, Terry Cutler spearheaded key initiatives in promoting venture capital and industry innovation and oversaw the licensing of the initial Innovation Investment Funds. In 1999 Terry chaired Australia's National Bandwidth Inquiry.
Terry Cutler is currently a member of the International Advisory Panel of Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor, reflecting his strong interest in the role of, and opportunities for, Asian countries in the new information era.
Terry Cutler served as Chairman of the Australia Council from 2001-2002, having previously chaired its New Media Arts Board. He has also previously served as a director of Cinemedia, Opera Australia and the Council of the Victorian College of the Arts.
Terry Cutler is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Member of the Institute of Company Directors and of the Market Research Society of Australia.
