Maureen Barron

Chair, Australian Film Commission

Maureen Barron has chaired the AFC Board of Commissioners since 29 October 1997.  She has extensive business expertise specialising in the entertainment industry.

Maureen has been General Manager Corporate for Southern Star Group, a member of the Copyright Tribunal and the Copyright Law Review Committee, and a member of the Minister for Trade's WTO Advisory Group.

From 1995 to 1997 Maureen was the Vice President of the Screen Producers Association of Australia, the peak producers’ representative body for the audiovisual production sector.

From 1991 to 1995 Maureen was the Business Affairs Manager for the Australian Film Finance Corporation Limited, the Federal Government's principal vehicle for funding Australian film and television production.

Maureen has been a member of the Australian Government’s Copyright Tribunal and is currently a member of the Copyright Law Review Committee, a specialist advisory body reporting to the Australian Attorney-General on copyright law matters. During 1999 and 2000 Maureen was a member of the Western Australian Screen Industry Taskforce established by Premier Richard Court to conduct a strategic review of the film and television industry in Western Australia and is currently a member of the Minister for Trade's WTO Advisory Group.
